Northern Sky Production/Acting Interns

Summer Internships – mid-May thru August

Northern Sky Theater interns work with our stage management team throughout the rehearsal period, assisting in all areas of the theater: scenic and prop set-up and takedown, wardrobe maintenance, prepping and attending rehearsals, prompting, social media, and backstage run crew. Interns with an interest in performing may be assigned to an understudy position. There are sometimes performance roles available as well, and interns will be given a chance to audition, if appropriate. We try to fit interns in the areas in which they’re most interested.

The rehearsal period is pretty intense, with long hours and late nights at the park and in the Gould (our indoor theater). Sometimes the weather in outdoor theater can be challenging and everyone has to be very flexible and good-humored. It’s an adventure! When the shows open, there can be more free time during the day to enjoy all Door County has to offer, as well as workshops and readings of new works.

During the run of the shows, interns are a part of the backstage run crew. They take part in setting up and striking all production elements each night and are responsible for dressing room and wardrobe maintenance. We have weekly scheduled brush up rehearsals for anyone understudying or performing, as well.

Northern Sky provides housing and pays a weekly stipend of $300. Interns must have their own vehicle. We do between six to eight shows a week in each venue, Monday to Saturday. Sunday is the day off. Contract Dates: May 12 – September 1, 2024.

Many of the interns who have been at Northern Sky request to come back, and some have gone on to other positions in our company. The Northern Sky intern experience is challenging and rewarding. Everyone here knows how vital a role the interns play in the success of Northern Sky and strive to make the summer intern experience memorable and fulfilling. See you under the stars…
